Over the past 6 months I've been learning how to animate directly in Unreal Engine in my spare time. It has been a huge learning curve going from using Maya (where I am completely comfortable working) to using Unreal which in many ways is completely different. Animation is animation though regardless of how it's done, so even if it can be very frustrating animating in the engine, there are also many positives and it's also great to be working in a scene which has realtime lighting and all that fancy stuff us CG animators don't normally get to see until way further down the pipeline.
The aim of the animation test below was to test both the rigs and also to learn how to animate in the engine by jumping straight in and trying to figure stuff out. All the textures are placeholder which is fine for now because this wasn't the purpose of the test.
Below are a few screenshots to show the interface and what the rigs look like. It's only my mother that looks at this blog so the more pictures that show what's going on the better!
Onwards!!
